Dunki and Salaar Clash continues on Day 19
It’s been an eventful start to the new year at the Indian box office. While the anticipation for the new releases of 2024 is building up, the last big releases of 2023 continue to create a massive buzz. One such film is Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki revolves around the relevant topic of illegal immigration.
Dunki had a decent start at the box office but struggled during the weekdays in its first week. However, it managed to hold its ground and crossed the coveted Rs 200 crore mark during the New Year celebrations. Although the collections dropped in the second week, the third weekend brought some relief. According to a report, Dunki witnessed a significant rise in collections, earning Rs 3.6 crores on Saturday (day 17) and Rs 4.54 crores on Sunday (day 18). The overall collection now stands at Rs 216.86 crores.
Despite the recent surge, Dunki is expected to face a dip in numbers and may struggle to cross the Rs 2 crore mark at the box office. The release of Merry Christmas, featuring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, adds another layer of competition in the third week.
Interestingly, Dunki has been clashing with Salaar since day one and it still continuing on day 19, a highly anticipated film starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Salaar, directed by Prashanth Neel, made an impressive opening day collection of Rs 90.7 crores and received rave reviews from the audience. It has also reportedly earned Rs 175 crores at the worldwide box office on its release day. In just four days, Salaar has crossed the Rs 400 crore mark worldwide and recently entered the prestigious Rs 600 crore club.
As the box office clash between Dunki and Salaar continues, all eyes are on the collections and the audience’s response. It remains to be seen how these films will fare in the coming weeks and whether they can sustain their success amidst tough competition.
