US actor Jonathan Majors, known for his role as Kang in the Marvel films, has been found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari, after a trial in New York. The jury reached a verdict after three days of deliberations, finding Majors guilty of assault by recklessly causing physical injury and harassment.
The incident occurred during BCban altercation in March when the couple were in a car in New York. Jabbari saw a text message on Majors’ phone from another woman that said, “Wish I was kissing you right now.” When she took the phone, Majors allegedly grabbed her, twisted her arm behind her back, and hit her in the head to retrieve it. Jabbari testified that she suffered a fractured finger, bruising, a cut behind her ear, and excruciating pain.
The jury, however, did not convict Majors on charges of aggravated harassment and assault with intent to cause physical harm. The prosecution presented evidence, including voice recordings and text messages, to demonstrate Majors’ pattern of physical and emotional violence in his relationship with Jabbari. In one text message sent in September 2022, Majors described himself as a “monster” and a “horrible man” who was not capable of love, while threatening to kill himself. In an audio recording from the same month, he compared Jabbari to Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama, demanding that she act more like them.

Majors did not testify during the trial, and his lawyer argued that he was the victim in the situation. The defense claimed that Jabbari assaulted Majors in a jealous rage after seeing the text message in the car. Majors, who also appeared in Creed III, countersued Jabbari in June, alleging that she was the aggressor, but prosecutors declined to charge her due to insufficient evidence.
Majors, 34, now faces up to a year in jail for his convictions. In addition to the legal consequences, he has been dropped from starring roles in upcoming Marvel movies. Following the verdict, a spokesperson for Marvel announced that the studio will not be moving forward with Majors on future projects.
Sentencing is scheduled for February, and a new protection order has been issued, requiring Majors to have no contact with Jabbari. Her lawyer expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that it should serve as an inspiration for other abused women to come forward.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office brought the criminal charges, emphasized that the psychological and emotional abuses inflicted by Majors are unfortunately common in many intimate partner violence cases.

A source familiar with the decision revealed that the studio will not proceed with Jonathan Majors, according to AFP after reports from US entertainment media.
Majors’ arrest in late March stemmed from a confrontation with 30-year-old Jabbari during a car ride in Manhattan. The court learned that the altercation began when Majors received a text message, and Jabbari attempted to take his phone, suspecting it to be from another woman. The ensuing struggle led to conflicting accusations between their legal representatives regarding who initiated the brawl over the device.
“Jonathan Majors was found guilty by a Manhattan Criminal Court jury of assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree,” stated the prosecutor’s office. Majors is scheduled to be sentenced on February 6.
Since his arrest, Marvel has postponed the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty until 2026, where Majors was set to play the lead villain. Another film, Magazine Dreams, which had potential as an Oscar contender, has also had its release delayed due to the allegations.
