After much anticipation, spy shots of the all-new Tata Safari EV have finally surfaced, confirming Tata Motors’ plans for an electrified version of their popular 7-seater SUV. The spy photo showcases the test car of the Safari EV, and upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that the test mule does not have a tailpipe, indicating its electric nature.
While limited information can be gleaned from the spy shot, we can speculate on the design of the Safari EV based on its sibling, the Harrier EV. Tata has already showcased the Harrier EV at the Auto Expo 2023, and it is likely that the Safari EV will feature a similar design language. The current Safari facelift already incorporates design cues from the Harrier EV, so we can expect the Safari EV to maintain a similar appearance, possibly with a closed-up grille and futuristic alloy wheel design.
Regarding the interior, the Safari EV is expected to retain most of the features from the regular Safari, with potential updates to the color theme. Tata Motors is likely to offer an extensive feature list for the Safari EV, including features such as V2L and V2V connectivity, arcade mode from the Nexon EV, and a larger touchscreen system.
While Tata has not provided specific details about the battery pack, it is anticipated that the Safari EV will be equipped with a 60-70 kWh battery, offering a real-life range of approximately 400 kilometers. Additionally, the Safari EV may offer an AWD option, similar to the Harrier EV, with two motors powering the front and rear axles.
As for pricing, the Safari EV is expected to be priced at around Rs 37 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It will likely face competition from the upcoming XUV700 Electric SUV, which is expected to feature an 80 kWh battery pack and advanced features like HUD with augmented reality and a Dolby surround sound system.
While Tata has not announced an official launch date for the Safari EV, it is speculated that it may be launched alongside the Harrier EV by the end of 2024. Exciting times lie ahead for electric SUV enthusiasts as Tata Motors expands its electrified lineup.
