UIDAI Extends Deadline for Free Aadhaar Updation and Rajasthan lowers the number of new issuing aadhaar centres

Aadhaar updation Deadline extended

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has recently announced an extension of the deadline for free updation by an additional 3 months. This means that individuals will now have until March 14, 2024, to update their Aadhaar details free of cost on the myAadhaar portal.

Previously, the deadline for free update was set to expire on December 14, 2023. However, based on the positive response from residents, the UIDAI has decided to extend the facility for another 3 months. It is important to note that this service is only free on the myAadhaar portal. Physical centers will continue to charge a fee of ₹50 for the update process, as was the case earlier.

The UIDAI has been actively encouraging residents to upload their Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents to revalidate their demographic details, especially if their Aadhaar was issued 10 years ago and has never been updated. If there is a need to change demographic details such as name, date of birth, or address, residents can utilize the online update service or visit the nearest Aadhaar center.

To access the free update service, residents can log onto the official myAadhaar portal at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/portal using their Aadhaar number. Upon logging in, a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number for verification. Users can then proceed to the ‘Document Update’ section, verify their details, and upload the necessary documents to revalidate their information.

Rajasthan lowers new Aadhaar issuing  Centres

It is important to note that in Rajasthan, there have been recent changes regarding the issuance of new Aadhaar cards. Only selected Aadhaar centers will now be authorized to issue new cards, and around 4,000 centers will no longer provide this service. The Department of Information Technology and Communication (DOITC) in Rajasthan has initiated the process of transitioning the machines at these centers to UCL mode from Enrolment Client Multiple Platform (ECMP) mode through Equal-Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) routing software. As a result, facilities for new card issuance will now be available at only 1,700 centers in Rajasthan.

In conclusion, the UIDAI has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar update on the myAadhaar portal by an additional 3 months. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to update their demographic details and upload the necessary documents for revalidation. For those in Rajasthan, it is important to note the changes in the issuance of new cards and to visit the authorized centers for any Aadhaar-related services.
