India’s cricket stars, Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal, have been nominated for the prestigious ICC Awards 2023. Suryakumar has been shortlisted as one of the four nominees for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricketer of the Year 2023, while Jaiswal is in contention for the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023.
Suryakumar Yadav, a 33-year-old Indian cricketer, had an exceptional year in the shortest format of the game. He scored a total of 733 runs from 17 innings, with an impressive average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95. His outstanding performance in T20 cricket earned him the accolade in 2022 as well. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav holds the record for the second-fastest hundred for India in men’s T20s, achieved in a match against Sri Lanka, taking just 35 balls to reach the milestone. India emerged victorious in the match, winning by a margin of 91 runs.
Joining Suryakumar Yadav as nominees for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricketer of the Year 2023 are Sikandar Raza from Zimbabwe, Alpesh Ramjani from Uganda, and Mark Chapman from New Zealand.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, has been recognized for his exceptional talent and potential as an emerging cricketer. The young Indian batsman has shown promise and has been nominated for the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023 award. Jaiswal is competing against Rachin Ravindra from New Zealand, Gerald Coetzee from South Africa, and Dilshan Madushanka from Sri Lanka for this prestigious honor.
In the women’s category, the nominees for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2023 include Chamari Athapaththu from Sri Lanka, Sophie Ecclestone from England, Hayley Matthews from West Indies, and Ellyse Perry from Australia. Ellyse Perry, a former two-time winner of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2019 and 2017, adds to the competition with her remarkable skills and experience.
Additionally, the ICC Awards 2023 also recognize the emerging talent in women’s cricket. The nominees for the ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2023 are Marufa Akter from Bangladesh, Lauren Bell from England, Darcey Carter from Scotland, and Phoebe Litchfield from Australia.
